Carity — Building a Community Platform for Health Professionals and Peer Discussion

Carity is a social platform connecting health professionals and community members through shared interests, questions, and conversations. Built with Laravel and Vue.js, it enables users to publish posts, respond to discussion threads, join groups, and follow mental health professionals and other members.

The platform needed to connect several community interactions within one accessible experience. Users needed ways to discover relevant discussions, participate in topic-based groups, and maintain connections with people whose content they found helpful.

I worked on the full-stack implementation, bringing publishing, discussions, community membership, and following features together across the Laravel application and Vue.js interface. The engineering focus was making these connected workflows function coherently, from discovering a post to responding and exploring its wider community.

My work covered the platform’s core community features and user interactions:

  • Publishing and discussions: Enabled users to share questions, experiences, and thoughts through posts, with replies keeping conversations connected to their original threads.
  • Groups and communities: Supported interest-based participation, allowing members to join relevant groups and discover conversations around topics that mattered to them.
  • Following relationships: Enabled users to follow professionals and other members, helping them maintain connections and discover content from those accounts.
  • Content discovery: Brought together a discussion feed, topic labels, post categories, and recency controls to help users navigate community activity.
  • Community engagement: Supported likes and visible response counts, giving users direct ways to acknowledge posts and identify active discussions.

The technical value came from connecting these features across the application. Posts needed to retain their author and discussion context, group participation needed to support content discovery, and following relationships needed to connect users with relevant contributors.

Carity brought these capabilities into a unified community platform, giving health professionals and members a shared place to exchange perspectives and participate in ongoing discussions. The project demonstrates my experience building social application workflows with Laravel and Vue.js, translating community requirements into connected product functionality.
